Portfolio Update
Hey,
Welcome to my portfolio – I’m Jordan: designer, thinker, and creative. One thing is certain for designers – you will never be absolutely happy with your portfolio. Portfolio ’22 was my first portfolio, with the main aim to break into the industry and land my first job. Well, it happened, and now it’s time to level up my portfolio in line with my experience, while also creating a space that allows me to inject more of my personality – with more written content (like this) and archives of old work.
Welcome to Portfolio ’24. It’s a lot less flashy than ’22, yet speaks in a much louder volume. I still require my UX work to be front and center, but I needed ’24 to achieve a few more things:
1. Change of Architecture
I rebuilt the entire website from Squarespace to using Elementor/HTML/CSS, which gave me greater control and also helped me polish my coding skills (I’ve written far more lines of CSS than I care to admit)!
2. Allow me to add and remove work easily
Elementor has allowed me the use of templates and global styles to make maintenance a lot smoother.
3. Champion simplicity & accessibility
While a flashier portfolio seems to be the trend, it goes against this principle. I wanted to keep things as simple as possible, to focus users on the work and content. This, in turn, allows me to add projects without having to spend hours updating. ’24 is quick, easy to use, and easy to maintain.
4. A space for more
I have templates that account for more than just projects, but other forms of thoughts and media.
I worked on this design for far longer than the final product suggests. There are a lot of little devils in the details, and I didn’t cut any corners here. Ultimately, I wanted to strike a balance between simplicity, accessibility, and going against the grain.
This could all change again in ’25, but realistically that’s the nature of a designer. I’m sure ’24 will continue to adapt and evolve over the next couple of years.
